The Victorian Liberal Party has today confirmed that they support the Turnbull Government’s massive cuts to Sunday and public holiday penalty rates.
Liberal Leader Matthew Guy and Deputy Leader David Hodgett today confirmed the Victorian Liberals’ position.
Mr Hodgett said, “I support the Federal Government’s changes to penalty rates…I don’t have a concern with changes to penalty rates.”
One in six local workers rely on award wages and penalty rates are critical for many to make ends meet, put food on the table and pay their bills.
The Liberals’ penalty rate cuts mean that retail workers stand to lose at least $72 from their Sunday pay.
Matthew Guy’s seat of Bulleen is home to the highest percentage of retail and hospitality workers in Melbourne, with one in five Bulleen workers employed in these industries.
Matthew Guy isn’t standing up for them – but the Andrews Labor Government is.
