The municipal monitor at Yarra City Council will remain for a further three months.
Minister for Local Government Shaun Leane today announced Mr Yehudi Blacher’s appointment will be extended until 23 September 2022 as the Council continues to improve its governance.
In Mr Blacher’s six-month report he noted his appreciation to Councillors and Council officers for their cooperation and support during his time in the role.
While Yarra City Council has made progress in its governance practices, Mr Blacher’s report indicated further guidance is needed and work is still required to improve the Council’s financial sustainability.
Mr Blacher will also support the newly appointed CEO Sue Wilkinson, who will begin in the role next week.
As recommended in the report, Minister Leane has reappointed Mr Blacher to continue to assist the Council to perform its role successfully and continue this progress in delivering good governance in the best interests of the community it serves.
Mr Blacher was appointed as municipal monitor to Yarra City Council for six months from 20 December 2021 and has considerable experience in local and state government, including serving as municipal monitor at Whittlesea Council from December 2019 to March 2020.
Municipal monitors advise councils about necessary governance improvements and report to the Minister on their efforts.
