Clubs in Melbourne’s east now have a great new place to shoot hoops, slam dunk and kick goals at the new Mullum Mullum Indoor Stadium at Donvale.
Member for Eastern Metropolitan Region Shaun Leane joined local netball, indoor soccer, badminton and basketball teams to officially open the new stadium which was made possible thanks to a $650,000 grant from the Andrews Labor Government.
Victorian communities deserve modern, safe facilities close to home and that’s why the Labor Government is getting it done for communities like Donvale across the state.
The new stadium boasts five multipurpose courts that can be used for a variety of sports including basketball, netball, indoor soccer, badminton, table tennis and volleyball.
Other features include spectator seating for up to 500 people, female friendly change rooms, a multi-purpose function space and additional car parking, making it perfect for a wide range of community events and activities.
It is expected the facility will be used by more than 200,000 people a year, as more people are signing up for indoor sports.
Indoor sports facilities bring people together and inspire locals to stay healthy and active – but we know court space is in high demand.
The $180 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is making indoors sports more accessible for all Victorians – so people of all ages and all abilities can get involved, whether as a player, coach, umpire or volunteer.
The stadium is a welcome addition to the Mullum Mullum Reserve which is also home to the Doncaster Hockey Club, Donvale Bowls Club and Currawong Tennis Club.
The Labor Government is committed to giving all Victorians the opportunity to get out there and get active.
That’s why we’re investing almost half a billion dollars in our Victorian Budget 2018/19 to ensure sport and active recreation goes from strength to strength.
