The Andrews Labor Government is boosting safety for cyclists riding between Scoresby and the CBD, building the missing links in the south east’s cycling network.
Member for the Eastern Metropolitan Region Shaun Leane today announced $1 million to create a continuous, connected, off-road bike path between Scoresby and the CBD.
New raised pavement crossings will be installed at high risk crossing areas on local roads, including on Drummond Street, Park Road, Estelle Street, Stanley Avenue, the Homesglen TAFE entrance and Bongong Avenue, and there will be additional signage for cyclists, pedestrians and drivers.
New pedestrian traffic lights will be installed on Atkinson Street, Forster Road and Waverley Road, and there will be safer access through the Monash Aquatic Centre car park.
These vital works are part of Victoria’s $1.1 billion ‘Towards Zero’ strategy, a joint plan between VicRoads and the TAC to reduce the number of lives lost on our roads to 200 or fewer and serious injuries by 15 per cent by 2020.
Works are expected to begin later this year and be completed by the end of the year.
Some lane closures and speed restrictions may be necessary, but disruptions will be kept to a minimum.
