The building and design students from Box Hill Institute have been announced as a finalist in the education category Award of the 2017 Premier’s Sustainability Awards.
Shaun Leane MP, said Box Hill Institute demonstrates how Victoria is home not only to leading sustainability thinkers, but everyday people working at a grassroots level who share their skills, knowledge and experience.
Students were provided an opportunity to explore the emerging sustainable construction technology of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) – a product like giant plywood where panels are used as load-bearing walls and floor slabs. Students designed and documented a sustainable mixed-use, predominantly residential building using CLT construction in the rapidly growing area of Box Hill.
The Premier’s Sustainability Awards are Victoria’s highest honour for sustainability, recognising excellence in a wide range of sectors from small to large business, education, community, health, government, environmental protection and the development of innovative products and services.
The winners will be announced at the Premier’s Sustainability Awards ceremony on Thursday 26 October at the Plaza Ballroom in Melbourne.
The ceremony will also announce two overall winners, personally chosen by the Premier of Victoria – the Premier’s Regional Recognition Award and the Premier’s Recognition Award.
