New electronic 40 km/h school signs on Dorset Road in Ferntree Gully will be switched on in time for term three, increasing the safety of children and their families around a local school.

Member for Eastern Metropolitan Region Shaun Leane will visit the Eastern Ranges School on Monday morning, where four new electronic flashing signs will replac the existing static 40km/h signs.

Eastern Ranges School provides educational programs for primary and secondary aged students with an autism spectrum disorder, catering for over 160 students.

The Andrews Labor Government has listened to the community’s calls for better signage of the school zone, amid concerns that many drivers still don’t slow down when approaching the school.

The new signs will operate from 8am to 9:30am and 2:30am to 4pm and will help to make the reduced 40km/h speed zone more noticeable to drivers.

Over 30,000 vehicles travel along Dorset Road each day, making it one of the busiest roads in the region.
